The parental leave policy supersedes UNDP's policies on Maternity Leave, Paternity Leave and Adoption Leave for the administration of parental leave in respect of a child born or adopted on or after 1 January 2023. For a staff member with a child born or adopted on 31 December 2022 or earlier, UNDP's policies on maternity, paternity, and adoption leave will continue to apply until completion of the respective leave entitlement contained in those policies. The parental leave policy provides for a period of 16 weeks of leave for all birth parents, plus an additional period of 10 weeks (for a total of 26 weeks) for gestational birth parents (consisting of a pre and post-natal leave period). This replaces the previous allocation of 16 weeks for maternity leave, 4 or 8 weeks for paternity leave, and 8 weeks for adoption leave. UNDP's policies on maternity, paternity, and adoption leave are valid until 31 December 2023 and will be retired thereafter.
